Synopsis

A compilation of the best 26 Shakespeare films from all over the world that were produced during the silent era. From a fragment of the 1899 British version of "King John", to the beautifully hand-stenciled Italian version of "The Merchant of Venice" in 1910, and also a splendid 1909 American film of "A Midsummer Night`s Dream", as well as an early "Romeo and Juliet" that may include the first onscreen appearance of the legendary actor John Gielgud. The feature length film showcases some of the very best materials that survive after the end of the silent era.
