When their headquarters is destroyed, the agents of Kingsman head to the United States to join forces with Statesman, Kingsman’s American counterpart, to bring down a ruthless crime syndicate known as “The Golden Circle”.
A sequel to the 2014 action adventure sleeper hit, Kingsman: The Golden Circle picks up after the events of The Secret Service, with many familiar faces in action including Taron Egerton, Colin Firth and Mark Strong.
Flanked by wonderful additions such as Channing Tatum, Pedro Pascal, Halle Berry, an eccentric Julianne Moore and a scene-stealing Elton John, the film doubles down on scale and spectacle, and reaches new heights of entertaining absurdity.
Unsurprisingly, one of the strengths of Kingsman: The Golden Circle is its incredibly dynamic action sequences. While there isn’t one that will quite define the film, energy levels are kept at a pulsating volume, and you can expect the same amount of vibrancy and fun as its predecessor.
Additionally, just like what he achieved with the original, director Matthew Vaughn pushes the envelope once again with scenes that are guaranteed to leave you wide-eyed. Along with its subversive social commentary, Kingsman: The Golden Circle also affronts with a few graphic moments, with one in particular that is even more audacious than the rest.
There aren’t many glaring negative aspects of the film, but if one criticism has to be levied, it’s that some of the characters are not as fleshed out as adequately as you’d expect.
Packed with plenty of endearing dialogue, action, humour, and heart, Kingsman: The Golden Circle is definitely not as fresh as the first film, but it does make up for it by expanding on the elements that we love, easily resulting in one of the best (and craziest) movies of the year.
If you enjoyed Deadpool, and the Kick-Ass and John Wick series, this film is right up your alley, although it’s recommended that uninitiated audiences watch the first film in order to enjoy the full experience.
