Box Office Breakdown (24 Oct – 30 Oct): Feel The Thunder

Powered by Popcorn, we take a closer look at the week’s box office winners and losers. As your resident prognosticator, we’ll also share some of our predictions for the coming week.

In A Pieshell Nutshell

Winner(s):

With nearly half of all available tickets sold, Marvel’s Thor: Ragnarok (96% Fresh, 75 Metascore) roared into theatres and grossed a massive $2.9 million at the box office – one of the biggest opening weekends of the year.

At the time of writing, it is not only the most well-received Thor movie, it is also the most highly-rated movie in the MCU. The Revengers > The Avengers.

Loser(s):

No Money, No Honey

Despite being outfitted with two mildly bankable stars in Domnhall Gleeson and Margot Robbie, biopic Goodbye Christopher Robin (63% Fresh, 54 Metascore), the true story about the creation of Winnie The Pooh, failed to chart in the top 10 despite being the only other noteworthy release of the week.

Prediction(s):

Christmas Comes Early

While we can’t look further than Thor: Ragnarok for a second consecutive top spot, we expect some early festive cheer to arrive in the form of A Bad Moms Christmas, the sequel to the popular 2016 comedy. However, with plenty of competition coming from all sides, a runners-up spot looks far from a certainty.

Other new releases include franchise horror Jigsaw, animated musical My Little Pony: The Movie, romance drama The Mountain Between Us, indie comedy Brad's Status, Chinese thriller Always Be With You, and Thai comedy Oversize Cops.

*All numbers are in estimates.
